St. Albans Red Dragon Band

"FEAR THE DRAGON"

FLUTE SECTION!!!

The St. Albans Red Dragon Band's flute section is comprised of many members - right now, 7 flutes and 2 piccolos. During concert season, however, our number usually increases by a couple. We have 2 seniors marching, Nia Fullen (she's our bouncer - don't mess around), and Brianna James. During concert season, senior Liz Tincher joins our ranks! Our field commander, Hannah Bott, was formerly a flute player. We have no section leaders- we're just one big flute family!

Outside of band, you may find us drawing, playing piano, four-wheeling (cough*Becca*cough), practicing other instruments, doing homework, being a field commander , and many other things. But at heart, we're all flutists. As much as we argue, we still stick together because we all have our greatest love in common.

At one point, we were the biggest section in the band, however, we're not always the loudest; but you can't say that we're not important. Many low brass (or others) would argue that we're useless. But we beg to differ. What would "Stars and Stripes Forever" be without the infamous piccolo parts? Or even  "Midnight In Transylvania", in which the flutes were elevated to melody status? Please do not underestimate the talent of woodwind players in general. We do all we can with what we've got.

So now that you know the flute section, feel free to contact any of us (I am available at BLJflutist@aol.com). And if you think something should be added to the page, pass it along! We're happy to add pictures, sayings, etc. Thank you for visiting our page, and we hope you come back soon!

Shows and Seniors, Past and Present

In 2006-07, our seniors were Caitlin Smith (flute) and Kyra Fullen (piccolo/flute). The marching band show was Medusa. It had four movements: Poseidon Lures Medusa, Athena's Rage, Serpents, and the Gorgon's Pursuit. The ratings pieces were Into the Raging River by Reineke and the Barber of Seville by Rossini.

In 2007-08, we had no seniors, but Sarah Creamer, junior, was our piccolo player. Our show was Midnight in Transylvania, with seniors Jessica Crouch and Andy Skidmore playing Mina and Count Dracula. The movements were Sunset (9:00)/The Awakening (10:00), In Search of Pure Blood (11:00), and The Feeding (12:00 Midnight). Our ratings pieces were Cripple Creek, a folk song, and City of Gold, part of a larger Reineke piece.

In 2008-09, our marching show was Gangsta' Jazz. There were no defined movements or names for them. We had one senior, Sarah Creamer, who plays piccolo and flute. We again won Chapter 8 Championships, Division 3! Our ratings pieces were the third of Symphony No. 1, and Ave Maria (not the Christmas song!). Hooray for ratings of ones!

This year, our show is "The Knight", with movements including "The Code", "Hymn", and "Crusade" - you can find the mp3 clips for these on another page of the site.... Our seniors are Nia Fullen (flute), Brianna James (flute/piccolo), and Hannah Bott (field commander). Liz Tincher, also a senior, plays flute during concert season, and marches with our flag corps! Band camp is coming up soon, and we can't wait to see how things'll turn out!

We hope that next year and many years to come can and will only be better and more exciting. Thank you for supporting the flute section, and therefore the band!
